who are we?
Root & Shadow is a small Denver salon centered around thoughtful hair and a more intentional experience.
We offer creative color, blonding, bold cuts, and everyday hair, with a focus on how the process feels just as much as the end result. Our approach is people-first, collaborative, and grounded.
the story
Root & Shadow was built around a simple idea. A salon should feel considered. The work, the pace, the environment. Everything should feel intentional and aligned with the people in it.
R&S was started by Lizzie in a tiny basement studio with one chair and a handful of clients. From the beginning, it drew people who were looking for something more personal. Hair that felt like them, and an experience that felt easy to settle into. It also became a space where queerness is just part of the room, and something to be celebrated.
That foundation shaped what Root & Shadow is now.
A shared space where the work is thoughtful, the approach is intuitive, and the experience is just as important as the result.We care about the details. We care about how people feel when they’re here. And we care about creating hair that actually fits the person wearing it.
Most people notice it right away. It’s a space where you can settle in and just be.
